The Celia Science & Anna Art Team Is Proud to Welcome Alonzo Pennington
I KNOW! We are so pumped!
Alonzo has been kind enough to share two songs with you to give you a FREE sneak peak:
We Love Alonzo’s Music…
So yeah, Alonzo can down right jam. Blues, Thumbpicking, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock… the man has incredible skills. In fact, he is the 2015 Thumbpicking World Grand Champion.
Alonzo is from Western Kentucky just like Justin, they’ve known each other for 20 years. ‘Zo’ grew up in a musically rich home. His dad, Eddie Pennington, is an amazing guitar player. The house was always full of music and creativity, guys like Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Grammar would stop by when they were in the area to pick, sing, and swap stories on the front porch. Zo’s been playing music for as long as he can remember, and he’s been playing live on stage almost since he first picked up a guitar or a fiddle.
Alonzo has played in a variety of musical circles. From playing with his father representing the “Thumbpicking” guitar style of Kentucky, to playing guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and singing backup for country music star John Michael Montgomery across the nation. Alonzo most recently represented the state of KY at the International Blues Challenge on Beale St. in Memphis TN. Making it all the way to the semi-final round of the competition in a field about 600 musicians.
He has played everywhere from little backwoods country bars and bonfires,to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville TN.
We are so honored that he is joining the Celia Science & Anna Art team on our podcast! Welcome Alonzo!
